As an organizing fellow with True North Organizing Network and Movement Strategies' YO! California program, Mahlija Florendo chose to work on an issue close to the heart of everyone in her Eastern Humboldt community: water.

After a series of one-to-one meetings, Mahlija kicked off her work on water issues with a community meeting, calling all River Warriors to the table to collaborate for positive change in their home along the Klamath and Trinity Rivers. More than 15 community members from Weitchpec, Orleans and Hoopa gathered at the Straight Arrow Cafe where they shared a meal, participated in activities and thought together about how to move forward with local water issues
